Water reaches upto a height 2 cm along a capillary tube. Calculate the height upto which water can reach along another capillary tube of radius `1/3`rd of the previous one.

Text Solution

Let the rise of liquid in the capillary tube of radius `r/3 "be" h_1`.
According to Jurin.s law, hr = constant.
Hence, `h_1(r/3)=hr`
or, `h_1=3h3xx2=6 cm`
`therefore` The rise of the liquid surface in the second tube = 6cm.
