How would the rms speed of an ideal gas ...

How would the rms speed of an ideal gas change if temperature increases.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let the pressure density temperature and molecular weight of an ideal gas are p,p,T and M respectively.
`therefore rms speed,c=sqrt((3p)/p)=sqrt((3RT)/M)`.
In the above equations as `c prop sqrt T`, so the rms speed increases with the increase in temperature of the gas.
