We have a sample of a gas characterised by p,V,T and another sample by `2p,V/4,2T.` What is the ratio of the number of molecules in the two samples?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For the first sample
`pV=n_1RT` (`n_1`= number of moles)
For the second sample
`2p.V/4=n_2R.2T` (`n_2`= number of moles)
or, `pV=4n_2RT`
`thereforen_1RT=4n_2RTor,n_1/n_2=4`
So the ratio of the number of molecules in the two samples is also 4:1.
