Calculate the speed of sound in a gas in...

Calculate the speed of sound in a gas in which two waves of wavelengths 1 . 00 m and 1 . 0 1 m produce 4 beats per second .

Let V be the velocity of sound .
If ` lambda_(1) = 1 m and lambda_(2) = 1 . 01 ` m then
frequencies ` n_(1) = (V)/(lambda_(1)) = (V)/(1) and n_(2) = (V)/(lambda_(2)) = (V)/(1.01)`
Since `n_(1) gt n_(2)`
So, ` n_(1) - n_(2) = 4 `
`:. (V)/(1)-(V)/(1.01) = 4 or, V xx (1.01-1)/(1.01) = 4 `
or, `V = (1 . 01 xx 4)/(0 .01) = 404 m*s^(-1)`
