How does flow of energy occur in trophic level?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Food chain is the energy used and conveyed from one tropic level to another. This is called flow of energy. Green plants capture about 1 % of the . solar energy during photosynthesis. A part of this trapped energy is used by plants in performing metabolic activities and some energy is released as heat into the atmosphere. The remaining is chemical energy is stored in plants as carbohydrates
The flow of energy takes place when herbivores eat plants. The chemical energy stored in plants is transferred to animals. These animals utilize some of this energy for metabohc activities and some energy is released as heat and remaining is stored.
