An iron tank contains helium at a pressure of `2.5` atmoshpere at `25^(@)C.` The tank can withstand a maximum pressure of 10 atmosphere. The building in which tan has been places cathes. Fire- predict whether, the tank blow up first or melt. (MP o iron= `1535^(@)C)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Thus `P_(1)=2*5 atm " " P_(2) ? T_(1)=25^(@)C=298K`
`T_(2)=1535^(@)C =1808K`
`(P_(1))/(T_(1))` thus, `P_(2)(P_(1)T_(1))/(T_(1))=(2*5xx1808)/(298)=15*16 "atm"`
Since, pressure of the gas in the tank is much more than 10 atm at the melting point. Thus, the tan will blow up befor reaching the melting point.
