(b) parturition is induced by the complex neuro- endocrine mechanism.
The signal for parturition originate from the fully developed foetus and the placenta which induces mild uterine contractions called foetal ejection reflex and this triggers release of oxytocin from the maternal pituitary. Oxytocin acts on the uterine muscle and causes stronger uterine contractions, which in turn stimulate futher secretion of oxytocin.
The stimulate reflex between the uterine contraction and oxytocin secretion continues resulting in stronger and stronger contractions, which results in the expulsion of the baby from the uterus through birth canal.
