10.0 g of `CaCO_(3)` on heating gave 4.4 g of `CO_(2)` and x g of CaO. Applying law of conservation of mass calculate the mass of CaO.

Mass of reactants = mass of product, here
`underset(10g)(CACO_(3))rarr underset(4.4g)(CO_(2))+underset(x)(CaO`
Hence, `x=10g-4.4g=5.6g`
which is mass of `CaO`.
Note : This law is not applicable to nuclear reactions.
