A mixture contains 64 g of dioxygen and ...

A mixture contains 64 g of dioxygen and 60 g of neon at a total pressure of 10 Bar. The partial pressure in bar of dioxygen and neon are respectively (atomic masses `O = 16, Ne = 20`)

A

4 and 6

B

6 and 4

C

5 and 5

D

8 and 2

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

`64 g O_(2) = (64)/(32)` moles = 2 moles
`60` g Ne = `(60)/(20)= 3` moles
Mole fraction of `O_(2) = (2)/(5) = 0.4`
Mole fraction of Ne = `(3)/(5) = 0.6`
Partial pressure = Mole fraction `xx` total pressure
`therefore P_(O_(2)) = 0.4 xx 10` bar = 4 bar
`P_(Ne) = 0.6 xx 10` bar = 6 bar
