A cockroach is flying towards a plane mirror in perpendicular direction with a velocity of 4 mm `s^(1)` . Find the speed of its image in the mirror and also find out the angle of incidence , angle of reflection and angle of deviation.

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
4 mm `s^(1)`, zero

`V_(C)=4 "mm" s^(-1)`
Speed of the image of cockroach is equal to the spped of cockroach.
Image speed =4` mm s^(1)`
As its is approcahing the mirror perpendicularly , its angle of incidence=angle of reflection =zero
Angle of deviation `=180-2i`
`" "=180-0`
`" "=180^(@)`

Draw Fig.16.6 showing the position of the plane mirror. Also label the angle of incidence and angle of reflection on it.

If a light ray incident on a plane mirror makes an angle 30^(@) with it, find the angle of incidence and angle of reflection.

A ray of light is incident on a plane mirror, making an angle 'q' with the surface of the mirror. Arrange the following steps in sequential order to calculate the angle between the incident light ray and the reflected light ray. (A) Draw a normal line on the plane mirror at the point of incidence of the light ray. (B) Note down the angle between the plane mirror and the incident light ray. (C) The sum of the angle of incidence and the angle between the plane mirror and the incident ray is 90^(@) .Determine the angle of incidence. (D) From the laws of reflection, the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection. Then the sum of the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection gives the angle between the incident light ray and the reflected light ray.

Two plane mirrors are arranged perpendicular to each other . If a light ray is incident at 30^(@) on one of the plane mirrors of above arrangement , then find (a) Angle of reflection at the second plane mirror. (b) Angle of deviation at both the mirrors. (c) Number of images that we can observe when one plane mirror is rotated by 30^(@) towards the other.
