Can an empty bottle be filled with water...

Can an empty bottle be filled with water , when it is inverted into a basin of water vertically ?
If not , what is the correct way of filling the bottle with water ? Justify your answer.

Since the bottle is filled with air , water cannot occupy this space unless a passage is provided for the expansion of air . Hence , the bottle should be inverted obliquenly.
