A and B are two infinitely long straight parallel conductors.C is another straight conductor of length 1 m kept parallel to A and B as shown in the figure. Then the force experienced by C is

A

towards A equal to `0.6 xx 10^(-5)N`

B

towards B equal to `5.4 xx 10^(-5)N`

C

towards A equal to `5.4 xx 10^(-5)N`

D

towards B equal to `0.6 xx 10^(-5)N`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
D

Conductor A attracts conductor C towards A.
`therefore` Force towards A
`= (mu_(0))/(2pi) = (I_(1)I_(2)I)/(r) = (mu_(0))/(2pi) (2 xx3xx1)/(0.05) = (3mu_(0))/(pi) xx20`
` = (60 xx 4pi xx 10^(-7))/(pi) = 240 xx 10^(-7) N`
Again force towards B = `(mu_(0))/(2pi) xx (3 xx 4xx 1)/(0.08) = (3mu_(0))/(pi) xx 25`
`= (3 xx 4pi xx 10^(-7))/(pi) xx 25 = 300 xx 10^(-7) N`
`therefore` Resultant force towards `B = (300 - 240)10^(-7)N`
= `0.6 xx 10^(-5)`N.
