A radioactive decay can form an isotope ...

A radioactive decay can form an isotope of the original nucleus with the emission of particles

A

3 `beta`- particles

B

2 `beta`- particles and 1 `alpha`- particle

C

2 `beta` - particles and 1 `gamma`- particle

D

2 `alpha`-particles and 1 `beta`- particle.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

A nucleus is denoted by `_(z)X^(A)`
An isotope should have same Z.
`alpha`- particle = `._(2)He^(4)`, `beta`- particle = `._(-1)beta^(0)`
The emission of one `alpha` particle and the emission of two `beta` particles maintain the Z same.
Hence for isotope formation `2beta` particles and one `alpha` particle are emitted.
