A radioactive decay can form an isotope ...

A radioactive decay can form an isotope of the original nucleus with the emission of particles

A

one `alpha ` and two `beta`

B

four `alpha ` and one `beta `

C

one `alpha ` and four `beta`

D

one `alpha ` and one `beta `

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

As the emission of an alpha particle decreases the atomic number and mass number by 2 and 4 respectively while the emission of a beta particle increases the atomic number by 1 but mass nmber remains the same . So, the emission of one alpha particle and two beta particles from the nucleus can from an isotope of the original nucleus .
It may be represented as
` " "_(Z)X^(A) overset (alpha) to ""_(Z-2)Y^(A-4) overset (2beta^(-)) to _(Z)X^(A-4)`
