An organic compound 'P' is a constituent of wine. 'P' on reacting with acidified `K_(2)Cr_(2)O_7` forms another compound 'Q'. When a piece of sodium is added to 'Q' a gas 'R' evolves which burns with a pop sound. Identify P,Q and R and write the chemical equations for the reactiono involved.

Since compound 'P' is a constituent of wine, it is ethanol. Upon oxidation, it forms compound 'Q' which is ethanoic acid. The acid reacts with sodium metal to evolve gas 'R'. It is hydrogen and burns with pop sound.
