(a) Ethanol to ethene , (b) Propanol to propanoic acid

(b) Propanol is warmed with dilute alkaline solution of potassium permanganate (5% solution) called baeyer's reagent. As a result the alcohol gets oxidised to acid known as propanoic acid.
