Electric energy is stored in the form of electric field in and around the charged system we create. Electric field of capacitor exists in between the plates of a capacitor, hence energy exists in between the plates of capacitor. Energy per unit volume is given by `u=(1)/(2)epsilon_(0) E^(2)`.
