A bulb connected in series with a solenoid is lit by a.c. source, Fig. If the soft in core is introduced in the solenoid, will is bulb glow brighter ?

Text Solution

The bulb will be dimmer. When we introduce softiron core in the solenoid, the indcutance will increase and hence, the inductive reactance will also increase and hence, the inductive reactance will also increase, current will decrease and hence, the bulb glows dimmer.
