Why does a capacitor block DC whereas an inductor allows DC to pass through it easily ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

As frequency of DC , V = 0
For a capacitor, `X_(C) = (1)/(2 pi v C)` , therefore, `X_(C)` = capacitive reactance = `infty`. Hence, a capacitor blocks DC.
For an indcutor, `X_(L) = 2 pi v L,` therefore, `X_(L)` = inductive reactance = 0. Hence, an inductor allows DC.
