A constant current I is maintained in a solenoid. Which of lthe following quantities will increase if an iron rod is inserted in the solenoid along its asix?

A

Self-inductance of solenoid

B

Magnetic flux associated with the solenoid

C

Magnetic field inside the solenoid

D

Rate of heat dissipation.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A, B, C

(a,b,c) : Current is maintained and resistance of coil is not affected by inserting the iron core . Hence rate of heat disspipation remains same but other give quantities are affected due to magnetisation of the core.

A constant current is maintained in a resistive solenoid having iron rod as its core. Which of the following quantities will change when iron rod is removed from solenoid?

A tightly-wound, long solenoid having 50 turns cm^(-1) , carris a current of 4.00 A . Find the magnetic intensity H and the magnetic field B at the centre of the solenoid. What will be the values of these quantities if an iron core is inserted in the solenoid and the magnetization I in the core is 4.00 xx 10^6 A m^(-1) ?

Statement I: An eletric lamp is connected in series with a long solenoid of copper with air core and then connected to an ac source. If an iron rod is inserted in the solenoid, the lamp will become dim. Satement II: If an iron rod is inserted in the solenoid, the inductance of the solenoid increases.

Two solenoids have identical geometrical construction but one is made of thick wire and the other of thin wire. Which of the following quantities are different for the two solenoids?

A solenoid is a long helical coil of wire through which a current is runs in order to create a magnetic field. The magnetic field of the solenoid is the superposition of the fields due to the current through each coil. It is nearly uniform inside the solenoid and close to zero outside and is similar to the field of a bar magnet having a north pole at one end and a south pole at the other depending upon the direction of current flow. The magnetic field produced in the solenoid is dependent on a few factors such as, the current in the coil, number of turns per unit length etc. The following graph is obtained by a researcher while doing an experiment to see the variation of the magnetic field with respect to the current in the solenoid. The unit of magnetic field as given in the graph attached is in milli-Tesla (mT) and the current is given in Ampere. Which of the following statement is correct if a soft iron bar is placed inside the solenoid?

Assertion (A) : An electric lamp is connected in series with a long solenoid of copper with air core and then connected to AC source. If an iron rod is inserted in solenoid the lamp will become dim. Reason (R ) : If iron rod is inserted in solenoid, the induction of solenoid increases.

A solenoid is connected to a battery so that a steady current flows through it. If an iron core is inserted into the solenoid, then

Assertion : If some ferromagnetic substance is filled inside a solenoid, its coefficient of self induction L will increase. Reason : By increasing the current in a coil, its coefficient of self induction L can be increased.

An indcutor having self inductance L with its coil resistance R is connected across a battery of emf elipson . When the circuit is in steady state t = 0, an iron rod is inserted into the inductor due to which its inductance becomes nL (ngt1). after insertion of rod, current in the circuit:

A long solenoid having n = 200 turns per metre has a circular cross-section of radius a_(1) = 1 cm . A circular conducting loop of radius a_(2) = 4 cm and resistance R = 5 (Omega) encircles the solenoid such that the centre of circular loop coincides with the midpoint of the axial line of the solenoid and they have the same axis as shown in Fig. A current 't' in the solenoid results in magnetic field along its axis with magnitude B = (mu)ni at points well inside the solenoid on its axis. We can neglect the insignificant field outside the solenoid. This results in a magnetic flux (phi)_(B) through the circular loop. If the current in the winding of solenoid is changed, it will also change the magnetic field B = (mu)_(0)ni and hence also the magnetic flux through the circular loop. Obvisouly, it will result in an induced emf or induced electric field in the circular loop and an induced current will appear in the loop. Let current in the winding of solenoid be reduced at a rate of 75 A //sec . Magentic flux through the loop due to external magnetic field will be I is the current in the loop a_(1) is the radius of solendoid and a_(1)=1cm (given) a_(2) is the radius of circular loop and a_(2)=4cm (given) i is hte current in the solenoid
