The displacement of a particle is given ...

The displacement of a particle is given by `x=(t-2)^(2)`  where x is in meters and in seconds. The distance covered by the particle in first 4 seconds is :

A

4m

B

8 m

C

12 m

D

16 m

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
b

Here the displacement at any time t is given by
`x=(t-2)^(2)`
Now when t=0
`x_0 =4 m`
This means the particle has an initial displacement of 4 m.
The displacement in first 4 second with be
`x_4 =(4-2)^(2)=4m`
`:.` Total displacement in first 4 seconds will be
`x=x_0 +x_4 =8m`
