A bus starts moving with an acceleration2 ms? A cyclist 96 m behind the bus starts simultaneously towards the bus at 20 m s-, after what time will he able to overtake the bus?

A

4 s

B

8 s

C

12 s

D

16 s

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
b

Here `96+(1)/(2)rt^(2)`=Total distance to be covered by the cyclist.
Also total distance covered by the cylist =20.t
`:. 20.t=(1)/(2)xx2t^(2)+96`
or `t^(2)-20t+96`
`t=(20pmsqrt(400-384))/(2)`
`t=(20pm4)/(2)=12sec,8sec`
Minimum time =8 sec
