A wheel of radius R is rolling on the ground without slipping with a speed u. When it reaches point A on the road a small lump of mud gets detached from its highest point B and drops on the ground at point D. What is the horizontal range AD of the mud?

A

`usqrt(R//g)`

B

`4usqrt(R//g)`

C

`3usqrt(R//g)`

D

`sqrt((3R)/(g))`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Here velocity of C.M. = u
`therefore` velocity of `B=u+u`
`=2u`
Also `h=2R` = height of B
Now `h=(1)/(2)g t^(2)ort=sqrt((2h)/(g))`
The horizontal range of the mud is
`X=2u.t`
`=2usqrt((2xx2R)/(g))`
`=4usqrt(R//g)`

A rain drop of radius 2 mm falls from a height of 500 m above the ground. It falls with decreasing acceleration until at half its original height, it attains its maximum speed and moves with uniform speed thereafter. What is the work done by the gravitational force on the drop in the first and second half of its journey? What is the work done by the resistive force in the entire journey, if its speed on reaching the ground is 10ms^(-1) ?

Three girls skatting on a circular ice ground of radius 200 m start from a point P on the edge of the ground and reach a point Q diametrically opposite to P following different paths as shown in Fig . 4.20 . What is the magnitude of the displacement vector for each ? for which girl is this equal to the actual length of path skate ?

A bird is sitting on the top of a vertical pole 20 m high and its elevation from a point O on the the ground is 45 ^(@). If files off horizontally straight away from the point O. After one second, the elevation of the bird from O is reduced to 30^(@). Then the speed (in m/s) of the bird is :
