A small block is shot into each of the four tracks as shown below. Each of the tracks rises to the same height. The speed with which the block enters the track is the same in all cases. At the highest point of the track, the normal reaction is maximum in :

A

B

C

D

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Let .r. the radius of curvature of the track at the highest point then centripetal force `(mv^(2))/(r)=N+mg` (N = normal reaction)
or `N=(mv^(2))/(r)-mgorNprop(1)/(r)`
This means N will be maximum for the track having minimum radius of curvature.

Two inclined frictionless tracks, one gradual and the other steep meet at A, from where two stones are allowed to slide down from rest, one on each track. Will the stones reach the bottom at the same time? Will they reach there with the same speed? Given theta_(1)=30^(@),theta_(2)=60^(@),h=10m . What are the speeds and time taken by the two stones?

A rectangular field is 150 m x 60 m. Cyclists Joe and Jim start together cycling at speeds 21m/min and 28 m/min respectively. They cycle along the track around the field at the same moment. After how many minutes do they meet again at the starting point?

Two trains A and B of length 400 m each are moving on two parallel tracks with a uniform speed of 72 km h^(-1) in the same direction, with A ahead of B. The driver of B decides to overtake A and accelerates by 1 m s^(-2) . If after 50 s, the guard of B just brushes past the driver of A, what was the original distance between them ?
