Arrange the following in increasing order of ph:
`KNO_(3)(aq)`,`CH_(3)COONa(aq)`,`NH_(4)Cl(aq)`,`C_(6)H_(5)COONH_(4)(aq)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`KNO_3` neutral pH = 7,
`CH_3COONa` (salt of weak acid and strong base), pH > 7 ,
`NH_4Cl` (salt of weak base and strong acid), pH < 7,
`C_6H_5COONH_4` (both weak but `NH_4OH` is slightly stronger than `C_6H_5COOH`) pH close to 7 only slightly > 7.
Hence, order is `NH_4Cl lt KNO_3 lt C_6H_5COONH lt CH_3COONa`.
