Magnetic elements of earth at a place are the quantities which describe completely in magnitude as well as direction, the magnetic field of earth at that place.
Magnetic elements of earth.s magnetic field are
(i) Magnetic declination `(theta)`,
(ii) Magnetic inclination or dip `(delta)`,
(iii) Horizontal component (H).
Magnetic declination is the angle between magnetic axis and the geographical axis at a place.
Magnetic dip or magentic inclination `delta` at a place is defined as the angle which the direction of total intensity of earth.s magnetic field makes with a horizontal line in the magnetic meridian.
Horizontal component H is the component of total intensity of earth.s magnetic field in the horizontal direction in the magnetic meridian.
The relation between `deltaandH` is
`H/R=cosdeltaorH=Rcosdelta`,
where R is the total intensity of earth.s magnetic field.
