In the medium where E. coli was growing,...

In the medium where E. coli was growing, lactose was added, which induced the lac operon. Then, why does lac operon shut down some time after addition of lactose in the medium?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The lac operon is regulated by the amount of lactose in the medium where the bacteria are grown. When the amount of lactose is exhausted in the medium, the lac operon shuts down.
