The mass and volume of a body and found ...

The mass and volume of a body and found to be `4 pm 0.03` kg and 5 `pm` 0.01 `m^(3)` respectively. Then find the maximum possible percentage error in density.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Mass m = `4 pm 0.03` kg `(m + Deltam)`
Volume V = `5 pm 0.01 m^(3) (V + DeltaV)`
Density = ?
Error in mass = `(Deltam)/(m) = (0.03)/(4) xx 100 = 0.75%`
Error in volume `= (DeltaV)/(V) = (0.01)/(5) xx 100 = 0.2%`
Density = `("mass")/("volume")`
Error in density = error in mass + error in volume
= 0.75% + 0.2% = 0.95%
