Show that a screw gauge of pitch I mm an...

Show that a screw gauge of pitch I mm and 100 divisions is more precise than a vernier caliper with 20 divisions on the sliding scale.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Least count of screw gauge = `("Pitch")/("No. of divisions") = (1 mm)/(100) = 0.01` mm
Least count of vernier caliper = `(1)/(20)` mm = 0.05 mm
As shown, the least count of screw gauge is lesser than vernier caliper, hence screw gauge more precise.
