Two bodies of mass 60 kg and 30 kg moving in the same direction along straight line velocity `40cms^(-1) and 30cms^(-1)` respectively suffer one dimensional elastic collision. Find their velocities after collision

Text Solution

`"Mass "m_(1)=60kg , "Mass" m_(2)=30kg ,v_(1)=40cms_(-1) ,v_(2)=30 cms^(-1)`
`v_(1)((m_(1)-m_(2))/(m_(1)+m_(2)))u_(1)+((2m_(1))/(m_(1)-m_(2)))u_(2)`
`v_(2)=((m_(2)-m_(1)))/(m_(1)+m_(2))=u_(2)+ ((2m^(2))/(m_(1)+m_(2)))u_(2)`
Substituting the values, we get ,
`v_(1)=(60-30)/90xx40+(2xx30)/90xx30`
`v_(1)=1/9[1200+1800]=(39000)/90=33.3cm s^(-1)`
likewise, `v_(2)=(30-60)/90xx30+(2xx60)/90xx40`
`v_(2)=1/9[1200+18000]=(3900)/90=43.3cm s^(-1)`
