The reading of pressure meter attached w...

The reading of pressure meter attached with a closed pipe is `5 xx 10^(5) Nm^(-2)`. On opening the valve of the pipe, the reading of the pressure meter is `4.5 xx 10^(5) Nm^(-2)`. Calculate the speed of the water flowing in the pipe.

Using Bernoulli.s equation
`P_1 + 1/2 rho v_1^2 = P_2 + 1/2 rho v_2^2`
`1/2 rho (v_2^2 - v_1^2) = P_1 - P_2`
Here initial velocity `v_1 = 0` and density of water `rho = 1000 kg m^(-3)`
`1/2 xx 10^(3) xx v_2^2 = (5 - 4.5) xx 10^(5)`
`v_2^2 = (0.5 xx 10^5 xx 2)/(10^3) = 1 xx 10^2 , v_2^2 = 100`
`v_2 = 10 ms^(-1)`
