Explain the results of Rutherford alpha-...

Explain the results of Rutherford `alpha`-particle scattering experiment.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Most of the alpha particles are undeflected through the gold foil and went straight.
Some of the alpha particles are defelcted through a small angle.
A few alpha particles (one in thousand) are deflected through the angle more that `90^(@)`.
Very few particles returned back (back scattered) - that is deflected back by `180^(@)`.
