In a conductor, there are free electrons...

In a conductor, there are free electrons which continuously move randomly but inside the volume of the conductor. When such a conductor is placed inside a magnetic field then what can you say about the magnetic forces acting on the system?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

If we consider a conductor for an instant of time. Free electrons inside the conductor, trillions in number are moving along all possible directions. Magnetic force is acting on each and every individual electron. But if we see it all together as a single system then the net instantaneous force on conductor ia zero.
