Quite often, connecting wires carrying currents in opposite directions are twisted together in using electrical appliances. Explain how it avoids unwanted magnetic fields.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In a twisted pair, both the wires behave as a solenoid carrying current in opposite directions, superimposed with each other. Hence, the resultant magnetic field will be zero. Hence, twisted pairs of wire results in a less amount of magnetic field build up around them.

Two free paralell wires carrying currents in opposite direction

Assertion: In electric circuits, wires carrying currents in opposite directions are often twised together. Reason: If the wires are not twisted together, the combination of the wires formes a current loop, the magnetic field generated by the loop might affect adjacent circuits of components.

In different electrical circuit generally connecting lead wires are twisted together in electrical appliances. Why this is done?
