Explain the functioning of this cirucit by how it is able to make the lamp glow brighter or dimmer
if we reverse the orientiatio of the diode how will the lamp behave

Explanation

When the switch is in dim position the lamp receives the power of only one half of the AC cycle .So it glows dimly as compared to when the switch is in bright position .
If we reverse the orientation of the diode the lamp power of only one - half of the AC cycle.
