What is an orbital ? Compare the shapes of 1s and 2s-orbital.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Orbital is a region in space around the nucleus where the probability of finding the electron is maximum . Both 1s and 2s orbitals are spherically symmetrical . 2s orbital is larger in size than 1s orbital. 2s orbitals has two most probable regions whereas 1s orbital has only one most probable region .2s orbital has one node whereas 1s orbital has no nodes.
