The enthalpy of the reaction H(2)(g)+(...

The enthalpy of the reaction
`H_(2)(g)+(1)/(2)O_(2)(g)toH_(2)O(g)` is `DeltaH_(1)` and that of `H_(2)(g)+(1)/(2)O_(2)(g)toH_(2)O(l)` is `DeltaH_(2)`. Then

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Reaction (ii) will have larger value of `DeltaH` because when `H_(2)O(g)` condenses to form `H_(2)O(l)` some heat is evolved (called enthalpy of condensation). Therefore, the total heat evolved becomes large.
