A process has `Delta H= 200` J `mol^(-1)` and `DeltaS=40" JK"^(-1)mol^(-1)`. Out of the values given below, choose the minimum temperature above which the process will be spontaneous :

A

5 K

B

4 K

C

20 K

D

12 K

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

`DeltaG = DeltaH -TDeltaS` or 0 = `DeltaH = TDeltaS`
`therefore T = (DeltaH)/(DeltaS) = (200)/(40) = 5K`
Above 5K, `DeltaG`, will become -ve and the reaction will be spontaneous.
