PbO and PbO(2) react with HCl according ...

PbO and `PbO_(2)` react with HCl according to following chemical equations
`2PbO+4HCl to2PbCl_(2)+2H_(2)O`
`PbO_(2)+4HCl toPbCl_(2)+Cl_(2)+2H_(2)O`
Why do these compounds differ n their reactivity?

`2overset(+2)(PbO)+4HClrarr2overset(+2)(PbCl_2)+2H_2O`
`overset(+4)(PbO_2)+4HClrarroverset(+4)PbCl_2+Cl_2+2H_2O`
In reaction, (i) , O.N of none of the atoms undergo a change . Therefore , it is not a redox reaction. It is an acid - base reaction , because `PbO_2` is a basic oxide which reacts with HCl acid .
The reaction (ii) is redox reaction in which `PbO_2` gets reduced and acts as an oxidising agent.
