In old age, people often suffer from stiff and inflamed joints. What is this condition called? What are the possible reasons for these symptoms?

When the joints in old aged persons become stiff and inflammed condition is called arthritis. It is called rheumatoid arthritis when it occurs due to inflammation of synovial membrance while it is called osteo-arthritis when it occurs due to inflammation of articular cartilages of synovial joints.
