(i) Underground parts of a plant may bear stem like characters. Due to below given reasons, it is considered as stem not root:
(a) Presence of nodes and internodes
(b) Scaly leaves
(c) Axillary and terminal buds
e.g. Rhizome of ginger and banana, corm of Colocasia (Kachalu), Bulb of onion and garlic.
(ii) Flower is a modified shoot
