Briefly give the contributions of the following scientists in formulating the cell theory
(a) Rudolf Virchow
(b) Schleiden and Schwann

(a) Rudolf Virchow: He proposed "Theory of cell lineage" which states "Omnis cellula e cellula" which means that new cells are formed from the pre-existing cells and not de novo.
(b) Schleiden and Schwann Schleiden (1838) stated that all plant cells have similar basic structure and have a cell wall .
Schwann (1839) proposed cell hypothesis which states that the bodies of both animals and plants are formed of cells an cellular products. He also reported the presence of plasma membrane in different types of animal cells and presence of cell wall as a unique character of the plant cells.
