(a) Plasma membrane of intestinal cells is raised to form microvilli to increase surface are of absorption of nutrients.
(b) Plasma membrane of adjacent animal cells form interdigitations for their interlocking and more exchange of materials.
(c) Tight junctions and desmosomes help in cell adhesion.
(d) Proteinous pipe-like gap junctions between adjacent cell membranes help in movement of ions and biomolecules between the cells.
These prove that there is a correlation between the structural features of plasma membrane and their function.
