Yes, the different types of plastids are interchangeable e.g.
(i) Chromoplasts are formed from green-coloured chloroplasts by replacement of chlorophyll by red-coloured lycopine in tomatoes and capsanthin in red pepper.
(ii) In root cells of carrot, red-coloured chromoplasts are formed from the colourless leucoplasts by development of red-coloured carotenes.
