What are optical fibers ? Give three appilications of these fibres.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Optical fibre is based upon the phenomenon of total internal reflection. The fibres are made of glass or quartz and coated with a substance having lower refractive index.
Optical fibres are used in transmission and reception of electrical signals by converting them first into light signals.
They are also used in telephone or other transmitting cables. Each fibre can carry about 2000 telephone messages.
