Oil floating on water looks cloured due to interference of light. What should be the approximate thickness of the film for such effects to be visible ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For interference effect to be visible, the thickness of the oil film must be of the order of wavelength of visible light i.e., from `4000 overset(*)A` to `8000 overset(*)A`.
