Galvanometer. A galvanometer is an electromechanical instrument used for detecting and indicating electric current.
Principle. Moving coil galvanometer is based on the Fleming left hand rule, current carrying conductor is placed in a magnetic field, it experiences a force given by Fleming.s left hand rule.
Conversion of a galvanometer into an ammeter
Let us consider a galvanometer having resistance G and we want to measure current I with it.

Let `I_g` = current which give full scale deflection in the galvanometer.
S = Shunt resistance connected parallel to the galvanometer
From the figure, we find that
Potential difference across S = Potential difference across G
`or (I + I_g) S = I_gG`
`or S = (I_gG)/(I-I_g)`
