A gas described by van der Waals equation .

A

behaves similar to an ideal gas in the limit of large molar volumes

B

behaves similar to an ideal gas in the limit of large pressures

C

is characterised by van der Waals' coefficients that are dependent directly on identity of gas but are independent of temperature

D

has the pressure that is lower than the pressure exerted by the same behaving ideally.

The correct Answer is:
A, C, D

(a) van der Waals equation is :
`(p+(a)/(V^(2)))(V-b)=RT` for 1 mole
When V is very large, `V-b~~V` and
`p+(a)/(V^(2))~~p` so that `pV=RT`.i.e. behaves similar to ideal gas
(c ) van der Waals coefficients (a) and (b) are characteristic of a gas and are independent of temperature.
(d) Due to inward pull acting on a molecule striking the wall, the pressure decreases. .
