A body falls towards earth in air. Will its total mechanical energy be conserved during the fall ? Justify.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

No , because resistive forces of air also act on the body which are non - conservative forces . So the gain in KE would are non - conservative forces . So the gain in KE would be smaller than the loss in PE as part of energy is lost in overcoming the iar resistance . Therefore , total mechanical energy will not conserved .
