Consider the following two statements:
A. Linear momentum of a system of partcles is zero.
B. Kinetic energ of a system of particles is zero.

A

A implies B , and B implies A .

B

A does not imply B , and B does not imply A .

C

A implies B , but B does not imply A .

D

B implies A , but A does not imply B.

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Kinetic energy is a scalar quantity hence for total kinetic energy to be zero , velocity of each particle must be zero hence total linear momentum will be zero . Linear momentum is a vector quantity and can be zero even if velocities of all the particles are non zero . So we can understand that B implies A , but A does not imply B .
